Loutraki’s beaches split into two moods: a long, organised town seafront with caf\u00e9s and showers, and a scatter of quiet coves around the Perachora peninsula that most day-trippers never find. Four beaches in the municipality currently carry the Blue Flag for the 2026 season: Loutraki-Boutsi\/Poseidon Resort, Loutraki 1, Loutraki 2 and Pefkakia-Agioi Theodoroi, according to the official 2026 Blue Flag awards list<\/a>. The municipality has said that Loutraki 1 specifically has held the flag for 35 consecutive years, 1991 to 2026, in its own official announcement<\/a>. Beyond the certified stretches sit Skaloma, the saltwater lagoon of Lake Vouliagmeni, and a handful of coves near Perachora that barely make it onto a map \u2014 all covered in our Lake Vouliagmeni and Perachora guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Loutraki central beach<\/h2>\n

The town beach runs along the seafront promenade as a long, more or less continuous run of smooth pebble, administratively split into named sections. Three of them (Loutraki-Boutsi\/Poseidon Resort, Loutraki 1 and Loutraki 2) are among the four Blue Flag beaches in the whole municipality, which is worth knowing because the flag is awarded per beach, not to the town as a whole. Caf\u00e9s, tavernas, sunbeds and showers line the promenade, so this is the most convenient stretch if you want amenities within a short walk. In practice, the busiest section sits closest to the centre; walk ten minutes either way and it thins out considerably.<\/p>\n

What “Blue Flag” actually means<\/h2>\n

Blue Flag isn’t a one-off award: it’s a seasonal certification, checked and re-awarded every year against criteria covering water quality, safety and lifeguard provision, environmental management and the level of services on site, as the Foundation for Environmental Education explains<\/a>. That’s why a beach can hold it for decades and still, technically, be re-certified from scratch each spring. A neighbouring beach without the flag isn’t necessarily worse either: it just may not have applied or met every criterion that year.<\/p>\n

Skaloma beach<\/h2>\n

Skaloma beach lies just west of central Loutraki on the Gulf of Corinth and is a quieter local favourite (not one of the four officially Blue Flag-certified beaches this season), but rated by regulars above one or two that are, mostly for how uncrowded it stays outside peak weeks. It’s also the closest beach to several of our villas, a short walk from the hilltop Villa Elena<\/a>, which makes it an easy daily swim spot for guests staying in the Skaloma-Perachora area.<\/p>\n

Lake Vouliagmeni (Heraion)<\/h2>\n

Lake Vouliagmeni is a closed saltwater lagoon near Perachora, about a quarter of an hour’s drive west of Loutraki, tucked at the tip of the peninsula close to the Heraion of Perachora archaeological site. It connects to the Gulf of Corinth through a narrow channel, and the water inside sits noticeably calmer than the open sea, with a sandy-pebble entry near the shore. That combination (sheltered, shallow near the edge, no waves to speak of) is what makes it popular with families, rather than any published figure about its size or salinity, which we’d rather not quote without a proper source.<\/p>\n

Mylokopi: Mikri and Megali<\/h2>\n

Mylokopi is a pair of neighbouring coves near Perachora. Mikri (Small) Mylokopi is sandy; Megali (Great) Mylokopi is rockier. Both have strikingly clear, turquoise water. These are unorganised beaches with no facilities, favoured by free divers and boat owners, so bring your own umbrella, water and snacks: there’s nothing to buy once you’re there. The short drive is worth it; this is arguably the most beautiful swimming near Loutraki, if not the easiest to reach.<\/p>\n

Quieter coves near Perachora<\/h2>\n

Beyond Mylokopi, the Perachora peninsula hides a few more low-key beaches worth seeking out: Sterna, Skalosia and Stravon. Small coves, best reached by car, typically with few or no facilities. They stay quiet even in high summer, which is really the whole appeal if the town beach feels too busy for your taste.<\/p>\n

Pebbles or sand: what to expect, and who won’t enjoy it<\/h2>\n

Most beaches in and around Loutraki, including the main town beach, are pebble rather than sand, which keeps the water exceptionally clear but isn’t for everyone. If you prefer sand underfoot, head to Lake Vouliagmeni or Mikri Mylokopi instead.<\/p>\n

To be honest about it: this coastline probably isn’t the right match for very small children who fuss over stones underfoot, committed sand-castle builders, or anyone with foot or joint issues who finds uneven ground uncomfortable. Water shoes solve most of the problem on the pebble stretches and the rocky entries around Perachora (a cheap pair from a Loutraki shop goes a long way), but if pebbles are a genuine dealbreaker, plan your swimming days around the sandy patches at the lake and Mikri Mylokopi rather than the town beach.<\/p>\n
